This year we did not take Spring Cleaning lightly! My closet was in DESPERATE need of a facelift and that is exactly what it got and then some! This was not a feat I tackled on my own, which is why I turned to the queen of organization, Teresa Dinneen of The Lifestyle(d). She is truly a miracle worker! My closet has never looked better, has never been more organized, functional or aesthetically pleasing! I am so thankful for her amazing talents — it is therapy in the form of organization.

If you are looking to organize anything in your life, look no further, Teresa has you covered!

5 Takeaways I Learned While Working With Teresa

Color Coordinate

I know color coordinating can seem intimidating and trust me when I tell you, I was immediately turned off by the thought of taking all of my clothes and organizing them by color- it seems impossible! But once you start and rip it like a bandaid, everything just starts to flow and make sense. When I tell you getting dressed has never been easier… color coordinating my closet has CHANGED the game. Having my clothes organized by each color has cut my getting ready time in half! This also makes it much easier to know what you have, instead of everything being scattered, it totally compartmentalizes your items and makes for not only an organized closet but also a beautiful aesthetically pleasing closet.

Clear Dividers

I’m not sure how I ever lived without these before! Clear dividers are not only SO cute and totally elevate your closet, but also so helpful with organizing items like my handbags. I feel as if it’s always been a bit of a struggle when trying to properly organize my bags and I will never organize them a different way after using these clear dividers. I highly recommend these for my purse addicts.

Baskets Are Your Friends

Baskets are SERIOUSLY your friends. I’m realizing this more so now than ever, they are such a staple to keeping your items organized. And what I really love about baskets is that they keep your shelves so clear and clean, not to mention being able to label each basket so you know exactly where everything lives. Everything has a place and there is a place for everything!

Divide And Conquer

Divide and Conquer- words to live by, especially when dealing with organizing a space. Sometimes you feel like, “where do I even begin?!” I’ve been there one too many times. But when you go section by section, the vision slowly starts to come together and when you finally feel like you’re making a dent, everything just flows smoothly from there! When I first stepped into my closet with Teresa, I definitely had these thoughts, but she quickly put my mind and anxiety at ease as she guided me through the organizational process of dividing and conquering.

Curate Your Special Moments

I spend a good amount of time in my closet — it's almost become my little sanctuary. I have to make it a personal space of my own and one thing that always makes me feel right at home is having family photos on display. I love having these photos of my family, it’s just a nice little daily reminder of the many amazing blessings God has so graciously given me in life.

I hope that this post inspires you to take even a small step towards cleaning up your closet. This may sound strange but the first thing I did when I received my cancer diagnosis was clean out my closet. I know, it sounds odd but hearing that life-altering, terrifying news the only thing I could do, the only thing I could summon my body to do was to clean my closet. I did that, I cleaned my closet because I could take that bit of control back and it did bring me a sense of calm and relief in that moment. Trust me, I had my low points, and I’m not saying that cleaning your closet is a cure-all but what it can do it bring a sense of power back to your life in any moment of doubt or confusion or uncertainty. I was overwhelmed and realized that it took breaking down one small space that I felt like I could conquer to truly give myself the strength to take on something as scary as cancer. I hope that whatever big or small area of your life you might be avoiding that this post helps you start small and then get the strength to begin to face them head-on — you’ve got this!
